In fact, we donвЂ™t know how many times this has happened, offscreen, or in the past. The original Beth was already left behind, long ago, when Rick and Morty switched universes after destroying human civilization. The two versions of Beth reflect those fateful moments in life when we make a life-altering decision, and become somebody else in the process.

Raising a family and healing a broken marriage is just as difficult as saving the universe, if not more so. The two Beths have come to a mutual understanding, as both are living very different, equally valid, lives. Well, it doesnвЂ™t matter - the question is meaningless, and the answer was never important. The family has saved the day, and the Earth, meaning thereвЂ™s only one thing left for Rick to do, and thatвЂ™s provide the answer to the burning question that has fueled a thousand clickbait YouTube videos - which Beth is the original? Jerry also has no trouble expressing love toward his family (although, it isnвЂ™t often reciprocated). Say what you will about Jerry - the man is pathetic, annoying, and a coward, but he understands his limits, while Rick keeps overestimating his own abilities, always under the illusion that he has everything under control. As the first episode of the season revealed, Rick canвЂ™t really die - he has more than one backup body, but Jerry has shown himself to be an unexpected hero, overshadowing Rick more often than expected.

ItвЂ™s pretty revealing that Rick mistakenly referred to Earth Beth as the вЂњrealвЂќ Beth - not because he knows, but because he feels closer to her. While Space Beth seems to have much more in common with Rick, on the surface, Earth Beth is the one who has been living day-to-day with her father, having the occasional bonding session like we saw in last weekвЂ™s episode. TheyвЂ™re both desperately seeking their fatherвЂ™s approval, one living his dream, the other living with Rick, tolerating his refusal to emotionally engage. As Rick desperately tries to avoid the inevitable, refusing to clarify who is the clone, the two Beths bond over their shared anger.
